Jehovah’s Witnesses have frowned against the ongoing mistreatment of their members in Eritrea. According to them, as at now, there are 52 Witnesses imprisoned.

None of them have been charged with a crime or have appeared in court, and they do not know if or when they will be released.

Three Jehovah’s Witnesses, Paulos Eyasu, Isaac Mogos, and Negede Teklemariam, have been incarcerated for 25 years. In recent years, several human rights bodies hve expressed increasing concern over Eritrea’s treatment of Jehovah’s Witnesses.

These include the UN Special Rapporteurs on the Situation of Human Rights in Eritrea, the UN Commission of Inquiry on Human Rights in Eritrea, the African Commission on Human and Peoples’ Rights, and the UN Human Rights Committee (CCPR). Eritrea has failed to implement any of these recommendations.
