Drs. Tsegezab Gebregergis
It must be remembered that, since the outbreak of the Eritrea-Ethiopia war on May 6, 1998, when the TPLF/EPRDF was running the affairs of Ethiopia, I have always maintained strongly that the enemies of Eritrea and its people are the PFDJ-led fascist regime in Eritrea and the TPLF/EPRDF-led regime in Ethiopia and I do not regret this principled stand.
I was deeply convinced of such views because the leadership of both the EPLF/PFDJ and the TPLF/EPRDF were responsible for starting a criminal war for supremacy between Eritrea and Ethiopia under the cover of a border dispute. Besides, after the cessation of hostilities between Eritrea and Ethiopia in December 2000, the TPLF leaders continued working day and night to strangle Eritrea and its people politically and economically by pursuing a policy of no-peace and no-war.
As a result of the TPLF/EPRDF policy towards Eritrea, the Eritrean people have had to endure untold suffering and agony for the past 28 years. This situation has now changed totally because of the shift in politics and the balance of forces that have taken place in the region.
Indeed, the TPLF leadership is now cornered in its home province of Tigray and is no longer a threat to Eritrea and its people. Besides, the new TPLF leadership has openly apologised on different occasions for some of the erroneous policies it has been pursuing against Eritrea while in power in Ethiopia.
I, therefore, intend to address the situation, in light of the irreversible and dangerous changes that have taken place in the region, in terms of what should and should not be done.
War is now imminent and can ignite at any time
Since the Eritrean and Ethiopian dictators, Issaias Afeworki and Abiy Ahmed, signed secret pacts and became allies in 2018, Mdrebahri has been warning that it is only a matter of time before TPLF-led Tigray would be attacked by the Eritrean dictator’s army and by Ethiopian soldiers trained in Sawa (Eritrea) in the North and by the mainly expansionist Amhara Ethiopian army, led by Abiy Ahmed, from the South.
Indeed, Mdrebahri has consistently informed the public that the cursed duo, Afeworki, and Ahmed, have been very busy, since their alliance began in 2018, hatching a conspiracy to bring the TPLF/Tigray to its knees and to destroy Eritrea as an independent political entity and subordinate it to Ethiopia politically, economically and culturally.
To this purpose, the Eritrean dictator and his military commanders have now secured a deal with Sudan to station Eritrean armed forces and naval forces in Kassala and Port Sudan respectively.
The political and military objective is to close and control the border between Sudan and Tigray, open a new front from the Sudanese side of the Tigran border and begin their offensive by obliterating anything and everything that moves in Tigray and also the united Eritrean opposition forces stationed there.
In other words, the fascist forces in Eritrea and Ethiopia are hell-bent on bringing proud Eritrea and Tigray under their total control by blood and fire, irrespective of the consequences that such an irresponsible, suicidal and criminal military adventure will have for the entire Horn of Africa region and beyond.
It has, therefore, now become clear from geography, history, and politics, and from the new realignment of forces in the Horn of Africa, that the fate of the Eritrean and Tigrayan peoples are intimately intertwined.
In other words, at this juncture, both Eritrea and Tigray can only survive and foil the plans of their enemies by working together very closely in solidarity and by actively coordinating their struggle against their common enemies: the Eritrean and Ethiopian fascist dictators.
As far as I am concerned, by their very nature, the war of aggression that the Eritrean dictator is planning to start against Tigray – in order to save Colonel Ahmed from collapsing under the weight of the prevailing irreconcilable contradictions in Ethiopia – is reactionary and criminal.
This is a war that the Eritrean and Ethiopian peoples must oppose and resist by armed means in order to overthrow the callous regimes of Afeworki and Ahmed.
It is therefore very important that Eritrean nationalists are fully aware that, at this turning point in our history, because of the radical change that has taken place in the balance of forces in the Horn of Africa in recent years, the victory of Tigray is, literally, the victory of the Eritrean people and their defeat is also our defeat.
This is the reason why I said a few months ago that an Eritrean who does not understand this historical reality, and the necessity to cooperate and work closely with the Tigrayan people and their political leadership, should retire from politics gracefully. After all, in politics, there are no permanent enemies or friends.
In other words, if war breaks out between Tigray and Eritrea at the instigation and provocation of the Eritrean dictator and his counterpart, Eritrean nationalist revolutionaries must mobilise the Eritrean people to make sure that Eritrean defence forces desert in their thousands and turn their guns against Afeworki and his running dogs to rid Eritrea of fascist tyranny once and for all.
In this case, the United Eritrean Opposition Forces stationed in Tigray must undertake vast mobilisation of the Eritrean population in the refugee camps in Tigray and arm them to defend Eritrean sovereignty and the honour of Eritrea’s people.
Consequently, Mdrebahri.com calls on Eritreans in their millions in the diaspora to come together and fully support, financially and morally, the Tigray based United Eritrean Opposition Forces who have openly declared that the principal enemy of Eritrea and its people is Issaias Afeworki, his criminal clique, and the expansionist forces in Ethiopia led by Abiy Ahmed and his associates.
Mdrebahri also calls on the oppressed nationalities and progressive and democratic forces inside Ethiopia to rise up and fight for their inalienable national rights, in solidarity with the Tigrayan and Eritrean people, and to condemn the ugly war preparations made by the two dictators.
For its part, Mdrebahri.com declares its support for the Eritrean forces fighting for justice, freedom, and Eritrean sovereignty and will contribute, both financially and intellectually, until the demise of the fascist forces in both Eritrea and Ethiopia has been secured.
Long live solidarity between the oppressed people!
Down with fascism!
The oppressed people in both Eritrea and Ethiopia will prevail!
